The history of the place...

Once upon a time there was an ecolodge in Guadeloupe!

A fan of travel and tropical islands, in 2006 Sophie and Matthieu decided to leave the south of France and their management positions at Sephora and Eminence to embark on a somewhat crazy adventure by creating a place that reconciles nature and tourists : In the hummingbird garden.

A plant cocoon a few minutes from the most beautiful beaches, in Deshaies, the most authentic village in Guadeloupe, and let's go! The suitcases are in place, there is a lot of work to launch the activity, and create a place in the image of their dreams ...

5 accommodations to start: the treehouse and the charming cottages to attract the first customers. Hummingbirds are already curious about this new coming and going in their garden. No staff, they do everything themselves: the garden, reception, additional cleaning, and even the chicken colombo as the meal on arrival!

Le guide du routard is the first to spot this unusual address: in 2007 they begin their article in a rather original way: "Welcomed by Batman (!)"... Their youngest son Tanguy, 3 years old, who never takes off his cape, ensures the security ! Sophie, Matthieu and their second son Théo still live there.

Very quickly, the wooden Creole huts designed for lovers are born, original with their outdoor showers, they correspond well to the spirit of the place: cozy and intimate in the heart of nature .

Ecological and user-friendly, a concept for the future!

Customers are already there, they love this concept of ecological and friendly hospitality, the reception is becoming more professional with a meeting point open every day. A real little concierge service worthy of a 5-star hotel with added relaxation.

Au jardin des colibris has established itself as a place that matters in Deshaies, since 2012 the address has been ranked No. 1 on Tripadvisor.

One after another, the guides swoop down for this hummingbird garden… Petit Futé, Géo, Hachette, Michelin, Lonely Planète, Evasion all the works on Guadeloupe cite Au jardin des colibris as one of their favorite addresses in Deshaies.

The bird protection league has spotted this unique place to make it a " refuge " within a tourist establishment, a first in Guadeloupe ! 25 bird species have been recorded on this place which bears its name well. A few months later, the Guadeloupe National Park granted him its confidence by awarding him its famous “ Esprit Parc ” brand.

Hummingbirds have wings that grow...

An opportunity is seized, the hummingbirds see their garden grow... It is now 3 times larger, with a dream view of the bay of Deshaies worthy of the most beautiful postcards.

3 new accommodations are open, villas with private swimming pool and sea view are emerging in a setting now covering one hectare of nature. 12 homes offer a wide choice to accommodate lovers of absolute calm a few minutes from the most beautiful beaches

In 2018, the tourism committee of the islands of Guadeloupe awarded the first " Green palm of tourism in the hummingbird garden" . A reward which aims to promote this ecolodge committed to the protection of biodiversity in Guadeloupe. The following year Au jardin des colibris will this time be their “ favourite”.

Dream cabins, inspired by nature!

Through their dreams and their travels, Sophie and Matthieu come up with ideas that abound:

“Like a nest, if we perched in the trees a cocoon for two lovers? … With a “starry bed”, for a siesta for two, or why not a night under the stars suspended in the tropical forest! Hummingbird nests are created, two treehouses, inspired by nature, made with love by a local craftsman.

Imagine… Under the stars, take a “moon bath”. In a "water garden", a stone bathtub, small pebbles on the ground, an outdoor shower, vegetal and mineral with tropical flowers, palm trees... A little crazy, perched in the trees, we will add a private swimming pool ! Jungle Lodge was a dream ... come true. These 3 tree houses, unique in Guadeloupe, have found a special place in the land of hummingbirds.

Now 17 accommodations scattered in one hectare of unspoiled nature are the delight of a privileged few...
