In search of cetaceans from the port of Deshaies

A unique moment with Guadeloupe Evasion Découverte…

Deshaies occupies a privileged location for observing cetaceans in the Caribbean Sea. Aboard a 14-meter catamaran, Jean Pierre and his team take you several times a week, depending on the season, for half a day of observation and listening!

Cédric the naturalist guide is perched on the roof of the catamaran, his eyes riveted on the horizon… The boat stops, listening with the hydrophone, the direction is given… Everyone looks closely, spots birds in the distance signs of the presence of underwater life, some read the many books on cetaceans present on board, Cédric tells some fascinating anecdotes, saying that he has already come across killer whales here… And suddenly, off we go! A breath in the blue... sperm whale or humpback whale? The show is incredible, Cédric is in charge of describing the scene, there are several of them, babies are often present too... A masterful tail glides towards the abyss for a 45-minute dive, the camera crackles under the amazed gaze of the children . It's time to go home, a shoal of playful dolphins tracing in the bow of the boat … and to say that 95% of outings are positive in terms of the observation of these wild animals, including 75% with dolphins and sperm whales!

Respectful and professional, we understand better why Guadeloupe Evasion Découverte is a member of the management council of the AGOA whaling sanctuary, and recommended by the Guadeloupe national park. They are currently working on identifying sperm whales. They are located 2 minutes from the hummingbird garden, it's convenient!
